What's on your Plate?!?
Have you ever thought about how you fill your plate? Do you tend to overload it with one type of food group over another (i.e. more meat than fruit)? With the New Year fast approaching us, many will be looking to shed a few holiday pounds... are you one of those people? Including below are some simple helpful tips on how to build your weight management plate.
*Purposely use a smaller plate and/ or bowl
*Approximately 1/3 of your plate should be lean protein a. Examples of lean protein: fish, chicken, turkey, beans, lentils b. Keep intake of red meats to a minimum
*Approximately 2/3 of your plate should be complex carbohydrates a. Examples include: vegetables, fruits, whole grains (brown rice, whole grain breads and pastas) b. Fruits and vegetables should make up most of this section of your plte, followed ny the whole grains
*Make it colorful a. Fill your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. Picture a rainbow on your plate, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, even purples and blues.
